An Evening of Celebration

  • Grace Episcopal Church 6 Madison Ave Madison, NJ, 07940 United States (map)

The Madison Historical Society is honoring Martin Heller, a philanthropist who gave one million dollars to help purchase, renovate and repurpose the Masonic Lodge. The building now known as the Heller building’s first floor is being named the Peggy Heller Senior Center in honor of Martin’s late wife. The deed restricts the building for future public and nonprofit use.

Martin Heller, a long time Madisonian, received the Mayor’s Hero Legacy Award for an impactful difference he had made in the community in February of 2025. He is the President of The Heller Group, whose headquarters is in Madison. The Group leases, manages and maintains shopping centers throughout New Jersey.

The Building was originally built as a Presbyterian Church in 1825. It is the oldest brick building in Madison. It was converted to a Masonic Lodge in 1930 when the Presbyterians built a new church on Green Avenue. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Sites in 2008.
